Instructor Insight Overview π
Instructor Insight Overview
Instructor Insight is a dashboard and reporting tool for reviewing faculty engagement, course activity, and student risk in one place. It combines instructor-level summaries, course drill-downs, alerting rules, historical views, and admin notes to help teams identify and act on issues quickly.
Dashboard Summary 0:15
-
The main dashboard shows one row per instructor.
Each row summarizes key engagement and activity metrics across the instructorβs courses:
- Courses taught
- Last course access
- Days since grades were posted
- Ungraded submission count
- Days since last discussion post
- High-risk student percentage from Dropout Detective or Grade Guardian
- Total student count
- If an instructor teaches multiple courses, the row can be expanded to show course-level detail.
- The dashboard defaults to the highest value across all courses so the most urgent issue is visible first.
Filtering, Sorting, and Historical Views 0:52
- The dashboard supports sorting by any column.
- You can search by instructor name or course name.
- Results can be exported to CSV for external filtering and analysis.
- A change-date option lets you view historical data from a previous day.
Alert Rules and Reporting 1:01
-
The learning system lets admins create custom notification rules.
Rules can be scheduled to run on specific days, such as weekly or daily.
Rule names are used as the email subject line, making alerts easy to identify.
Multiple conditions can be combined in a single rule, such as:
- No access for a set number of days
- More than a threshold of ungraded submissions
- Reports can then be filtered to show the instructors who triggered a given alert.
Instructor and Course Drill-Down 1:45
-
Clicking an instructor and course opens a deeper view of engagement and grading activity.
Available metrics include:
- Course access frequency with peer averages
- Student-to-instructor ratio
- Weekly discussion posts compared with peers
- Discussion participation across the week
- Percentage of discussion participation
-
Average student discussion posts
Post content previews with a view-all option
Discussion breakdown by topic
Submission counts over time in a 30-day view
Ungraded submission age buckets:
- 0β3 days
- 4β7 days
- 8β14 days
- 15β30 days
- 31+ days
- Grade distribution
- Grading feedback comments
- 30-day student risk trends for courses using Dropout Detective or Grade Guardian
- These views help identify whether instructors are keeping up with grading, encouraging discussion, and supporting at-risk students.
Notes and Visibility 4:11
- Any chart or graph can have a note attached to it.
- A general notes section is also available at the bottom of the page.
- Notes are created by admin users and are only visible to other admin users.
- Instructor Insight can also be enabled for faculty so they can review their own data within the course.
